Uppsala research visit, May 2025

Taina Rauhala, VTT

I am thrilled to share that this spring I had the amazing opportunity to complete a one-month research stay at the Ångström lab of Uppsala University in Sweden. For part of the time, I was also joined by my colleague Olli Sorsa from VTT. During the visit, we delved into processing and characterizing sodium-ion battery electrodes as well as manufacturing three-electrode pouch cells to study hard carbon anode active materials in sodium-ion chemistry with the goal of understanding structure-performance relationships.

A heartfelt thank you to the whole group in Uppsala for welcoming us. It was a privilege to get to work alongside such an experienced and enthusiastic team in the sodium-ion battery field. Special thanks to Prof. Reza Younesi, Aram Hall, Mario Valvo, Tamara Patranika, and Katja Lahtinen for the inspiring discussions, collaboration, and support throughout the visit.

Many thanks also to Business Finland for funding our Bioboost project and making the research visit possible.

Looking forward to continuing our collaboration and applying the knowledge and skills gained to future projects!
